I am currently sensing the “new dawn” over our land at this present time, and opportunities for change – good change – on the horizon, should we (as the people of the land), heed the age old truths of the words from God recorded for us in the Bible.
The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, writing during his ministry in approximately 627 – 586 BC, gives us some sound advice and counsel fit for today’s hectic, busy, ‘microwave’ generation,
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Jeremiah 6: 16
Stubbornness is a killer to walking with God and finding rest for our souls.
These people whom Jeremiah was speaking to refused to take God’s path, and went their own way instead, and suffered the consequences as a result in times ahead.
We may be living in a different time, in a different place, but still the path remains the same, for finding true rest for our souls. We each have a choice: will I go God’s way, or follow Frank Sinatra’s urge to, ‘do it my way?’
The only way to find true rest for our souls, and true peace for our mind, will and emotions therefore, is to follow God’s path. True peace on the inside and out can only come from the ‘Prince of Peace’, Jesus Christ, whom the prophet Isaiah spoke of (see Isaiah 9 verse 6).
This land has choices, we can each follow our own path, and suffer the eventual consequences, or we can be wise and follow God’s ancient paths – just as many of our forefathers have done here in the emerald isle for centuries. We have a to choose whether to worship the God St. Patrick brought good news of back in the 5th century, or go the way of the world, leading to chaos and discontentment on the inside.
Which is it going to be?
